BECE LEAKS CONFIRMED BY WAEC

The West African Examination Council(WAEC) on Thursday confirmed that the Basic Education Certificate Examination(BECE) Mathematics candidates was leaked.

The Director of Public Affairs, WAEC, Agnes Teye Cudjoe, reported that before 9:00 am on Thursday, the mathematics questions had been circulated on all social media platforms much to the shock of the Council.

In an interview with Kasapa News Bonohene Baffour Awuah, Madam Agnes reported that some supervisors / Invigilators who had taken shots of the questions with their mobile phones and circulated it to students have been arrested and are being interrogated.

In Her word;

The issue of exam question leakage is a huge problem for WAEC. Some of our officials in Obuasi yesterday arrested some teachers who had collected GHC2.00 and GHC1.00 from the students ostensibly to help them in the exams. All these are malpractices that should be strongly discouraged.”

Leakages over the years have prompted the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to introduce measures to curb exam malpractices. One of the measures was to extend the ban on mobile phones and related gadgets to exam officials at various centres.

We are yet to find out from the council if there will be a rewrite of the Mathematics paper.
